Paracinema Magazine Issue 5!

Check it out! Paracinema Magazine’s 5th issue has hit the stands, and yours truly did the cover art– yay!  Really, check these guys out, I’d love their work even if I wasn’t a contributing artist. Cult, independant, horror, trash and B-movies taken seriously? Now yer talkin’!

Visit them at paracinema.net and pick up a copy! The editors are super cool and you’ll love it.

Illustration Friday: “Flawed”

It’s been awhile since I did an Illustration Friday, but this image popped into my head this morning and I HAD to do it.

This could be seen as an allegory of the continual “whitewashing” of Hollywood and popular culture…or an indication that I haven’t drawn a zombie in a good long time, and I was due.

For illustrationfriday.com

For illustrationfriday.com. Veronica Lake meets Lupe Velez meets Viktor Frankenstein.

Holy Crap, I have a store!

I set up a Zazzle.com store (insanely cool and easy) and have stuff in it! Admittedly not MUCH, but it’s late, I’m tired, and so what…I have a store! It’s…it’s…NEATO!

I mean, jeez laweez, I have actual real-life T-shirts for sale! And nicely printed ones, as well! Yay!

Illustration Friday: “Voices”

It’s been a long time since I participated in Illustration Friday, but this topic was a pretty easy one: I went to Helium Karaoke Night at the Rail Pub last night and, as usual, brought a wee sketchbook with me. It’s kinda sad that my best gesture drawing gets done in bars.

(Warning: The individual images are pretty big, so you’ll want to minimize ‘em in your browser. I’m feeling a tad too lazy to resize them right now.)

My sketchbook now reeks of cigarettes.

Website redesign and relaunch!

Finally! I’m really happy with this design and I think I’m going to keep it around for a long time. New art, new links, new everything. And, MUCH easier to update than the old one.

November seems to be starting on a good foot. How I managed to stumble through two tours the morning after Halloween, I’ll never know.

Is it just me…

Or does Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys not look remotely like what he sounds like?

Then

Now

Now

….or is it just me that would actually contemplate what the vocalist of the Pet Shop Boys would look like at any given time?

And yes, you can totally expect a Pet Shop Boys inspired piece of art in the near future. Hey, if I can devote my entire Junior year of college to Roy Orbison and Joe Strummer, I can make one measly Pet Shop Boys piece, right?

Heheeheee…

Because I am an obsessive nerd (is there any other kind?) immediately after watching the Dark City director’s cut (with the Alex Proyas commentary track, I’ll get to the other ones later) I Google “Dr. Schreber Dark City”. Because, as noted, I am a huge nerd and have a probably very unhealthy obsession with that character.

So, imagine my glee when I clicked on the first page of Google Images!

I. Need. Help.

I <3 Dr. Schreber and Being Linked on Google

If I start writing “Mrs. Dr. Schreber” in big curly letters on the front of my binder, send help.

Dr. Sketchy’s Savannah!

So I went to the first Dr. Sketchy’s Savannah branch meetup last Sunday, held n the supposedly haunted basement of the Moon River Brewery– fun fun fun!

People my own age! A cool model! Booze! Art! And…I actually won a contest! WOO! I haven’t won a contest since I was in kindergarten. “Best Incorporation of a Stuffed Animal”…

Productivity RULES!

I’ve done an insane amount of artwork in the past few days, enough so that a website update is in serious order. I’ve averaged about two new pieces– penciled, inked, and colored– every day for three or four days. Wow. Haven’t done THAT in…um….

Winding down my time in NYC (thank GOD), and my ticket to Savannah, Georgia has been purchased. I’m out of here on the 15th of May and I could not be happier. I need to find a job, but at last I’ll be gone, gone, do you hear me?!

Too much energy drink…coherency lost…

Anyway, here’s one piece I’ve done that I’m really happy about. This is a goldfinch and I’m going to do two more (probably a cardinal and a blue jay) and then offer them for sale through my Etsy store. I’ve never really done a realistic bird before so I’m really happy about how this came out. I keep telling myself I’m not going to do anymore gross/disturbing stuff and then I go do something like this…

Illustration Friday: “Homage”

This week’s entry, for “homage”…

I was listening to the song “Back to Black” on the subway and thought that it was a very pulp, noir kind of song and sentiment, which immediatley made me think of those great pulpy detective story covers of the 1940s and 1950s. I’m doing another one of these based on a Warren Zevon song and may do more…
